homemade calzone and pizza

The pictures hardly do it justice, but pizza/ calzone night was such a hit I had to share. For weeks I had been obsessed with the idea of a feta and roasted garlic spread with eggplant. The fantasy quickly evolved into . . . lets stuff that combination into a hot and gooey calzone. I must say, it was an excellent idea. . .

Roasted Eggplant Calzone
homemade pizza crust
roasted eggplant: olive oil, s&p, for 35 minutes at 425°
feta spread: an entire package of crumbled feta, olive oil, 1/2 a bulb of
roasted garlic (baked with the eggplant), oregano, and cracked pepper
fresh tomatoes
fresh basil
purple onions
fresh mozzarella

Tomato and Goat Cheese Pizza
this one is pretty self explanatory, same crust just flat
simple pizza sauce: strained tomatoes, fresh basil and oregano,
the other 1/2 of the roasted garlic, salt and pepper
goat cheese
fresh tomatoes
purple onion
fresh mozzarella

Both obsessively watched and baked on my new pizza stone (thanks mom!) according to the crust instructions.

I am already thinking of another pizza night with this beautiful and inspiring summer combination of corn, hatch chilis and bacon! Hmmm, what would be some other unexpected and delicious combinations?

Crumb on Parchment

Michelle Bernstein's new lunch spot is a delicious mix offering breakfast all day, soups, salads, sandwiches, and daily specials. Occupying the center of the 3930 building in the design district, Crumb is flanked by pricey clothing and furniture stores yet somehow remains casual and affordable.

I indulged in the breakfast sandwich on butter bread with eggs, kale, caramelized onions, chicken sausage and cheddar. Scrumptious.

Check out Crumb on Parchment
Open: M-F 9:30-4:30

Walk to End Alzheimers

In memory of my father I have tried to stay involved with the Alzheimer's association and support when I can. This year will be the third walk I have participated in and I'm hoping to have the largest team to date. Please sign up to join my team for the October 27th walk, or make a donation here for the cause.

A perfectly cooked hard boiled egg

I cannot think of a better breakfast. It's simple, filling, and beautifully vibrant in color. Especially when it's cooked to perfection (well, my preference) by a sweet and skilled boyfriend.

Fish en papillote

Our first meal using the delicious yellowtail caught in Bimini. This recipe is a favorite of mine. It is easy to play with, you can substitute different proteins or vegetables and it's extremely elegant and no stress for a dinner party because everything can be assembled ahead of time.

Our yellowtail en papillote was a perfect way to elevate a (very) late dinner on the coffee table if front of the Olympics.
